Serum Australis Horse Blood Products
From our satisfied, healthy horses comes high quality blood. Our horses are mostly retired standard bred harness racers who find their home with us when too slow for the track, or injured. These horses are used to being handled and most enjoy a good scratch and feed during bleeding. We get some real smoochers who enjoy the interaction. We use Low Stress Stock handling techniques to work with them, aiming to provide a level of trust between them and our workers that is consistently rewarded by mutual cooperation. They graze native pastures fertilised with natural products including compost extract, chicken manure and fish and seaweed emulsion. They are given regular doses of minerals and vitamins, and if at all possible, no chemicals. They are bled on a rotational roster in order for their blood to recover between bleeds. All processes are governed by the New South Wales Director-General’s Animal Care and Ethics Committee.
Defibrinated horse blood
With a defibrination process that is so gentle we are able to make good quality serum from the blood that has been processed. The low haemolysis of our blood enables it to be consistently robust, giving long shelf life (4-5 weeks). This is perfect for agar plate production, where the plates can have up to a six week expiry period.
We make serum from our defibrinated blood. The defibrination process is gentle enough that a golden serum can be achieved with low haemolysis. Once sterile filtered it is perfect for a myriad of tasks in the lab, from feeding cells to blocking immunoassays and much more.
horse plasma is made with Acid Citrate Dextrose. Once centrifuged it is sent straight away to keep the integrity of the proteins, or frozen to send if you wish.
We can custom-make antibodies with your antigen. Call us to talk about how we can help you.
